First of all, you need to clarify what outcome you want.
Do you need to:
- Remove content from or close the entire website?
- Close a domain?
Remove content from or close the website
In many cases, contacting the web host, the name server manager, or the registrar is actually enough to quickly get a website closed down.
You can contact:
- The web hosting company
The web hosting company is the party hosting the content of the website, so they can remove all or part of the content.
- The name server manager
The name server manager can remove the reference from the domain to the IP address where the website is located, without simultaneously removing references to other services, such as IoT.
- The registrar
The registrar handles the administration of the domain on behalf of the domain holder. Often, the registrar is also the name server manager and web host. Administration of .dk domains is not always handled by a registrar, but can be done directly by the domain holder.
Where do I find these three actors?
You can find the name server manager and the registrar in the WHOIS database.

Unable to get the website closed?
If you find that the above does not help, it may be necessary to close the entire domain.
On March 23, 2021, the Supreme Court established that a court order must be directed at the infringer or other technical intermediaries, e.g., the web hosting company, before an injunction can be directed at Punktum dk. You can view the ruling here. This means that if you contact Punktum dk to get the entire domain closed, the case processing will be faster if you have already investigated beforehand whether you can get the website closed via the other actors, or whether one of the actors is based in Denmark so you can obtain a court order against them.
I don't need to close a website – I need to close a domain instead
If you have determined that you actually need to close a domain, Punktum dk is the party that can help you. You should be aware that when a domain is closed, all other services associated with the domain—such as email services and IoT—will also disappear. Therefore, closing the domain can have irreversible consequences.
The content itself does not disappear when a domain is closed, but internet users will no longer be able to use the domain to locate the content.
Closing a domain therefore has far-reaching consequences for both businesses and individuals. That is why it is crucial that you are absolutely certain that this is what needs to happen, and that the website itself shouldn't simply be taken down instead.
