Copenhagen March 2nd

Update of terms and conditions for domain name usage rights

On July 1, 2026, Punktum dk's terms and conditions for the right of use of a .dk domain name will be updated, partly as a result of Punktum dk's decision to change its administrative model and to increase its efforts regarding internet security.

The Danish Internet Forum (DIFO) hereby invites you to a written consultation regarding significant upcoming changes to Punktum dk's registrant terms.

The changes to the terms follow an ongoing dialogue between DIFO/Punktum dk and the internet community regarding Punktum dk's future administration of .dk domain names, as well as a consultation on whether Punktum dk can do more to combat the increase in online crime. Based on this dialogue and the input received, DIFO has decided that Punktum dk will transition to a registrar-managed model and implement specific measures to strengthen internet security.

See a draft of the amended terms and conditions.

Consultation responses regarding the changes to the terms should be sent via email to: hoering@punktum.dk no later than March 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM.

Changes to the updated terms

Transition to registrar-management As of July 1, 2026, the registration of new .dk domain names can only take place via registrar-management. Existing domain names that are registrar-managed cannot transition to being registrant-managed. Registrant-management will be permanently discontinued as of July 1, 2028. As a registrant, you must therefore ensure that you have selected a registrar to manage your domain name before this date.

1-year registration period As of July 1, 2026, the registration of new .dk domain names can only be for a period of 1 year. Existing domain names can only be renewed for 1 year, and renewal can occur no earlier than 2 months before the expiry of the existing registration period. The registration period for existing multi-year domain names will not change; i.e., an existing domain name with a 10-year registration period does not need to be converted to a 1-year period until that period expires.

Shortening of the deadline for data and ID verification As of July 1, 2026, the deadline for a registrant to complete data and ID verification will be significantly shortened to 10 days (from the current 30 days) if aggravating circumstances warrant it. Aggravating circumstances may exist in cases of suspected abuse of a .dk domain name, including reasonable suspicion that the registrant's identity and contact information are incorrect.

Implementation of a "trusted flagger" scheme using reliable reporters As of July 1, 2026, Punktum dk will also be able to suspend a domain name in accordance with its terms for unlawful use, based on a specific report from a "reliable reporter" (also referred to as a "trusted flagger") recognized by Punktum dk, cf. the new section 9.5 of the terms.
