Punktum dk and Statistics Denmark join forces: Easing burdens for the business sector

Punktum dk and Statistics Denmark have entered into a new partnership agreement. The agreement grants Statistics Denmark ongoing access to the list of registered .dk domain names. The purpose is to enhance data quality in official statistics and analyses—while making everyday life easier for citizens and businesses.

Going forward, when Statistics Denmark (DST) produces analyses and statistics on digital Denmark, it will be supported by an even more solid data foundation. Through this new partnership, Statistics Denmark receives ongoing access to Punktum dk’s list of registered .dk domain names and registrants.

The purpose is to link domain data with company information, which can subsequently support more effective quality assurance of statistical registers and target data collection among citizens and businesses - for instance, by reducing the number of questions in selected digital data collection surveys and using smaller sample sizes, thereby freeing up time for other tasks.

Benefiting the digital society

At Punktum dk, which manages the Danish part of the internet and secures the digital infrastructure under .dk, the partnership aligns directly with the organization’s social responsibility.

"Our task is to take good care of the foundation beneath the Danish internet and support healthy digital development in Denmark. Statistics Denmark approached us with a desire to use our data to strengthen the quality of Danish statistics, and that made complete sense to us. We only disclose data within clear, legal frameworks and with the approval of our Board of Directors. When data can create genuine value for society and simultaneously ease administrative burdens for the entire business community, we are glad to participate," says Jakob Bring Truelsen, CEO of Punktum dk.

Less hassle for citizens and businesses

Statistics Denmark looks forward to the new opportunities that this data partnership provides for daily analytical work:

"Overall, this partnership is an excellent example of the type of collaboration with private and public stakeholders that we aim to pursue under our Strategy 2030. In practice, access to updated data on .dk domain names from Punktum dk is a significant asset in our work to present an accurate picture of Denmark and our digital business sector. It makes our data collection more efficient and precise, allowing us to generate new, relevant insights. A very tangible benefit for businesses and citizens is that, in the long term, we will be able to target and potentially reduce sample sizes in selected data collections once we can draw on existing and validated registers, says National Statistician Martin Ulrik Jensen.

Clear frameworks and approval

The agreement originated from an inquiry by Statistics Denmark in January 2026 and was finalized in August following a thorough process.

Punktum dk’s Board of Directors, which represents the internet community, approved the agreement. This aligns with a policy decision from 2016 establishing that the list of .dk domain names may be shared with public authorities performing a societal task—including statistics, research, data validation, cybersecurity, or law enforcement. The technical implementation of the secure data transfer is underway to ensure that data delivery proceeds safely and in accordance with all applicable regulations.
