Publication of the result of the public consultation on the expansion of special characters in .dk domains

April 4th 2024

DIFO has held a written consultation on whether the number of special characters in .dk domains should be expanded.

The background to the consultation is that discussions are taking place in ICANN about whether it should be possible to use domain names across national borders in local languages. Since DIFO wants to be in line with the international internet community, DIFO has asked for their opinion on this.

The result of the hearing is that none of the hearing participants found that there is a need to expand the number of special characters in .dk domains. This is due, among other things, to concern that expanding the number of special characters may increase the risk of financial crime.

Based on the consultation, DIFO has found no basis for expanding the number of special characters in .dk domain names at this time.

We thank the internet community many times for your participation.
