EPP for managing .dk domain names

EPP is an international standard for machine-to-machine communication between registrars and domain registries. As a registrar, you can use an EPP integration to automate the management of .dk domain names directly from your own systems. The complete technical specification, including requirements, commands and examples, is available on Punktum dk’s GitHub repository.

Why is EPP important?

EPP makes it possible to manage large volumes of .dk domain names efficiently and consistently by automating processes in your own systems and workflows.

EPP will also become a central part of the technical requirements for Punktum dk’s registrars from 1 July 2027.

What can EPP be used for?

EPP can be used to automate a range of actions that would otherwise have to be performed manually. These include:

  • registering and checking .dk domain names
  • renewing and transferring .dk domain names
  • changing the registrant and other domain contacts
  • creating and managing contacts
  • creating and modifying name servers
  • managing DNSSEC data

EPP can therefore be used to integrate the ongoing administration of .dk domain names directly into the registrar’s own solutions.

The exact functionality and applicable business rules are described in the technical specification.

EPP will become mandatory

From 1 July 2027, under the published plans, Punktum dk’s registrars will be required to use Punktum dk’s EPP interface or another API subsequently designated by Punktum dk.

Development and testing of an EPP integration should therefore begin well in advance. Punktum dk provides a sandbox environment where the integration can be developed and tested before being deployed in the production environment.

The specification is updated regularly

The technical specification is updated whenever changes are made to Punktum dk’s EPP service. Release notes are available in the repository’s wiki, and relevant updates are also communicated through Punktum dk’s registrar newsletter.

EPP FAQ

EPP står for Extensible Provisioning Protocol.

Her findes blandt andet implementeringskrav, understøttede handlinger, kommandoer, eksempler og supplerende tekniske ressourcer.
