Punktum dk moves important mail to e-Boks to stop fraudsters

Cybercriminals are increasingly trying to impersonate Punktum dk to extract personal information and money from Danes. As the administrator of the Danish part of the internet, Punktum dk is now taking a new, significant step in the fight against digital fraud: going forward, important communications and invoices will be sent directly to e-Boks.

Unfortunately, most people are familiar with the situation of receiving an email that looks deceptively authentic, but actually conceals malicious links and fraud attempts. At Punktum dk, we unfortunately see how cybercriminals copy our name, logo, and layout to send fake invoices or credit notes to owners of .dk domains.

To remove any doubt about who the sender is, Punktum dk is now moving key messages - including invoices, credit notes, notifications, and terms changes - into e-Boks. This ensures that Danish domain owners can have complete peace of mind, knowing that a communication from Punktum dk is 100% genuine.

"Our primary task is to protect Denmark's digital infrastructure and ensure that .dk continues to be one of the safest places to navigate on the internet," says Jakob Bring Truelsen, CEO of Punktum dk. "When fraudsters abuse our brand, we have to take decisive action. We are now sending actionable messages directly through a trusted channel, so people know they come from us. We now need to help all our customers get used to this, and that process is well underway."

Another step toward a safer internet

This initiative is the latest in a long series of measures where Punktum dk works to enhance security for both citizens and businesses. While mandatory ID verification with MitID has made it difficult for criminals to hide behind a .dk domain, the move to e-Boks now closes an important door against phishing and fake emails.

Although the majority of official notifications will land in the digital mailbox going forward, technical receipts from self-service portal actions as well as notifications regarding suspension and deletion will still be sent via email. Customers who prefer to receive messages from Punktum dk via email rather than e-Boks can opt in through the self-service portal on punktum.dk. The rollout to e-Boks applies to most Danish registrants residing in Denmark or Greenland. Foreign registrants will continue to receive communications from Punktum dk via email. The rollout is already underway, supplementing Punktum dk's other work on consumer protection and security tools such as tjekpånettet.dk and unikpånettet.dk.
