Why do I need to complete an ID check?
We carry out ID checks to ensure that we have the correct identity and contact details for the registrant of a .dk domain name.
This makes it more difficult to register or take over a .dk domain name using incorrect information or by misusing another person’s or company’s identity.
The ID check is linked to you as the registrant, not just to an individual .dk domain name. If you have several .dk domain names, failure to complete the ID check may therefore affect all of them.
What is the difference between a data check and an ID check?
With a data check, we check that you can receive emails at the address you have provided. This is usually done by clicking a confirmation link in an email.
With an ID check, you must confirm or provide documentation of your identity. How the check is carried out depends, among other things, on whether you are registered with a Danish or non-Danish country code.
If you need to complete both a data check and an ID check, the data check is normally completed as part of the ID check.
ID checks for registrants in Denmark
If you are registered with a Danish country code, you complete the ID check using MitID.
You will receive an email with information about the check. You must then:
- Log in to Punktum dk’s self-service portal.
- Link your MitID.
- Enter your CPR or CVR number.
- Follow the instructions to complete the check.
You have 30 days to complete the check.
ID checks for registrants outside Denmark
If you are registered with a non-Danish country code, you only need to complete an ID check if you are asked to do so.
Punktum dk carries out a risk-based assessment of the information provided. If an ID check is required, you will receive an email asking you to provide documentation of your identity and address through our partner Addo Sign.
Individuals may be asked to provide, among other things:
- Photo identification
- Proof of address
- A photo of themselves
Companies may also be asked to submit two documents issued by a public authority as proof of the company and its address.
You have 25 days to submit the documentation. Always follow the specific instructions in the email you receive.
Who is responsible for the ID check?
You, as the registrant, are always responsible for completing the ID check. Punktum dk or your registrar administers the check by sending you instructions and checking your information.
If Punktum dk is carrying out the check, follow the instructions in the email you have received. Registrants with a Danish country code complete the ID check by logging in to the self-service portal and linking their MitID.
If your .dk domain name is registrar-managed, the registrar may handle all or part of the check. Contact your registrar if this is stated in the message you received or if you are unsure how to complete the check.
What happens if I do not complete the ID check?
If you do not complete the check by the deadline, your .dk domain name will be suspended for 30 days. This may cause the website and email services associated with the .dk domain name to stop working.
If you have several .dk domain names, they may also be suspended. This is because the check is linked to you as the registrant and not just to a single .dk domain name.
You can still complete the ID check during the suspension period. Once the check has been completed and approved, the .dk domain name will be reactivated.
If the check is not completed before the end of the 30-day suspension period, the registration of the .dk domain name will be terminated.
What happens if the ID check is rejected?
A manual ID check may be rejected if the documentation submitted is insufficient or cannot be approved.
If the check is rejected, follow the instructions in the message you receive. For registrants with a non-Danish country code, the .dk domain name may be suspended immediately, but it is still possible to complete the check during the suspension period.
If the .dk domain name is registrar-managed, contact your registrar for assistance.
