Choose a registrar for your .dk domain name

Going forward, your .dk domain name must be managed by a registrar. If you haven’t chosen one yet, this guide will help you through the transition, step by step.

If the registrant for one or more domain names has passed away, only the deceased's heir can gain access to manage (transfer or delete) the domain name.
To access this, the heir must submit a probate certificate.

If there are more than one heir, a power of attorney must be submitted from them, giving the desired heir the right to administer the right to use the domain name.

This must be submitted via our contact form which can be found here:

Use “My profile” and the subject “Bankruptcy/estate”

It is a requirement to have a permanent residential address if you want to be the registrant of a .dk domain name

Do you solely have a mailing address?

If you do not have a permanent residential address but instead have a mailing address, you must be able to provide documentation that you receive mail at that address.

This can be done by submitting documentation to our customer service here.
The documentation can be a utility bill for e.g., gas, water, electricity, heating, or your phone company.

We also accept documentation sent from your bank or insurance company. The documentation must be no more than 3 months old, and your name and address must be clearly visible.

Danish citizens can only use .dk domains with MitID validation.

Everyone who has a .dk domain name, who is resident in Denmark, must associate a MitID with their profile on self-service. The process starts automatically when you log in to self-service.

You cannot be exempted from using MitID in Denmark - you can only be exempt from using digital mail and online self-service in public institutions, but since Punktum dk is not a public institution, it does not apply to us.

Read more in our procedure for checking contact information

Validation means that Punktum dk compares the name and address information provided to us with the information listed in the Danish National Register of Persons/Companies.

The name and address information of registrants with a Danish address is validated by checking the above-mentioned registers at the time a domain name is created. This way, we are certain that all contact information for our registrants is accurate.

Once your information is validated, you do not have to update your address information anywhere else than in the Danish National Register of Persons/Companies. However, you must still keep your other contact information, such as your e-mail address, up to date.

All Danish associations must associate a MitID with their domain names.

If you have CVR number, you can order an MitID at MitID-business here.

If you do not have a CVR number, you need to create one. This can be done at virk.dk (Danish only).

After connecting MitID, other members of the association will be able to log on to self-service with the regular Punktum dk user-ID and password.

For a start, ask whether your financial department has an administrator MitID that you can use. They have to report to SKAT with NemID, so they might have it.

If no one in the company has MitID, you can create an administrator NemID(Danish only).

When you look up a .dk domain name in our WHOIS database, you will be able to see whether the registrant behind the domain has undergone a data and ID check.

The data and ID check is verified in the following way:

ID verified with electronic ID: When the registrant's identity has been verified with MitID or other equivalent electronic ID.

Registrant approved after a risk assessment: When the registrant's contact information, after an automated review with several current criteria (a "risk engine"), has not given rise to doubt their identity and initiate further checks.

ID verified by submission of documentation: When the registrant's identity has been verified by physical photo documentation (e.g. passport or driver's license) at Punktum dk.

ID checked by registrar: When the registrant's identity, after a check carried out by a dealer either by electronic ID or by physical documentation, is assessed as verified.

Data verification is mandatory for all new registrants. The requirement also applies to existing registrants who register a new domain name without previously having completed data verification.

  • The registrant receives an email from Punktum dk with a confirmation link.
  • The registrant clicks the link to validate the email address.
  • Once the link has been clicked, the data verification is complete.

Punktum dk only verifies that the registrant can receive emails at the address provided.

If the registrant is required to complete both data and ID verification, the registrant only receives a link to ID verification. The data verification is automatically marked as complete when the registrant clicks the ID verification link.
