Registrar management of your .dk domain name

Learn how to retrieve the AuthID your registrar needs to transfer your .dk domain name.

FAQ about registrar management

If your .dk domain name is currently handled directly by Punktum dk, your domain and website will continue to work as normal. You can continue to manage and renew your .dk domain name directly with Punktum dk until 30 June 2028. However, renewals can only be made for one year at a time. Before 30 June 2028, you must have chosen a registrar who will handle renewal, payment, and support going forward.

From 1 July 2026, you will no longer be able to register new .dk domain names directly with Punktum dk, and you will need to decide what registrar should handle your .dk domain name in the future. 30 June 2028 is the last day by which you must have chosen a new registrar, and it is also the last day on which you can renew your existing .dk domain name directly with Punktum dk. After this date, all renewal, payment and administration must take place through your chosen registrar.

Once you have chosen a registrar, log in to Punktum dk’s self-service portal and generate an authorization code (Auth-ID). You need this code to switch from one registrar to another, or from Punktum dk to a registrar. You then give the code to the registrar, who will handle the transfer for you. The code is valid for 14 days. If it expires, you can simply generate a new one.

As the registrant, it is up to you to choose which registrar should handle your .dk domain name in the future.

Punktum.dk cannot recommend one specific registrar over another. You are free to choose the registrar you prefer. For many people, it will be natural to choose the registrar where they already have their website, web hosting, or other services.

You can find a list of registrars here:

No, Punktum dk does not charge a fee to move your .dk domain name to registrar management.

How the transfer itself takes place depends on the registrar you choose. You can still retrieve an authorization code in Punktum dk’s self-service portal, which the registrar will need in order to move your .dk domain name.

Existing .dk domain names with a long subscription period will not be affected when the transition period begins on July 1, 2026.

All registrants must choose a registrar – even if they have .dk domain names that have been paid for more than one year in advance. Punktum dk will ensure that all domain names with a remaining validity of more than one year will remain active for the entire prepaid period, at the price already paid.

However, it will no longer be possible to renew a domain for a new “multi-year” period. For example, if you currently have a five-year or ten-year .dk domain name, it will remain valid for the full duration of that period.

After that, renewals will be invoiced on a yearly basis.

If you do not choose a registrar before this date, you will not be able to renew your .dk domain name. This means that you must choose a registrar before you can renew your .dk domain name. In the worst case, the domain name may expire, and your website and email will stop working.

From 1 July 2026, new .dk domain names can only be registered through a registrar — no longer directly with Punktum dk. This means that you must pay for your new .dk domain name directly through the registrar.
