Choose a registrar for your .dk domain name

Going forward, your .dk domain name must be managed by a registrar. If you haven’t chosen one yet, this guide will help you through the transition, step by step.

To avoid relying on receiving emails from us, you can sign up for payment services (Betalingsservice), automatic card payments, and e-Boks when paying your invoices.

If a .dk domain is registered to a deceased person, it can only be administrated by the heir of the deceased, who can choose to transfer or cancel the registration.

In this case, we ask the heir to submit a probate certificate. If there are several heirs, powers of attorney from other heirs must be forwarded.

As well as the information in the probate court certificate, we also need the email address of the heir who is to take over the right to the domain name.

The documentation can be submitted to us on https://punktum.dk/en/customer-service

Once the correct documentation has been received, we will insert the person's email address as contact for the domain name. In this way, the heir can access the administration of the domain name on our self-service portal, where the domain must be terminated or transferred.

Registrant

Once you have registered a .dk domain name, you are the registrant of the domain name. It is you who entered into the agreement with us, and you therefore have the right to use it. This includes an annual fee to keep the user-rights. As a registrant, you can make all corrections regarding the domain name on our online self-service.

Proxy

The registrant may authorize another person or company to perform actions regarding the domain name. This role is called proxy and will be assigned a separate user ID.

The proxy can handle the following: Changing name servers, DNSSEC, creating nameservers on the domain name, changing the registration period for a domain name and change the payer role.

Some actions initiated by the agent must be approved by the registrant. This applies, for example, to transfer or termination of the domain name.

Billing contact

The registrant may pass on the payment of the domain name to another person or company. This role is called billing contact and will be assigned a separate user ID.

The billing contact cannot perform actions other than paying for the domain name.

The registrant can manage and register roles via login to our self-service under "Domain names".

If your domain name is registrar managed, you cannot administrate roles. You can read more about registrar management here.

From 01-10-2025, company email addresses will be made public, as a result of the requirements in the NIS2 Law. This does not apply to private individuals and sole proprietorships.

The email address that will be published in our publicly available WHOIS database must not contain personal data such as initials or names. If the email address contains personal data, you must change it.

This can be done via Punktum dk’s self-service: https://selvbetjening.punktum.dk/.

See the guide below if needed.

Only the public email address will be displayed publicly in WHOIS. If you have not provided a public email address, your primary email address will be published by default. This choice is made when confirming contact information upon logging in to the self-service or by editing contact details under "My Profile".

This can be done via the self-service: https://selvbetjening.punktum.dk/

It is the registrant's responsibility to ensure that the provided contact information – including the public email address – is correct and up to date.

What is personal data?
Personal data is information such as name, initials, phone number, or other identifying details.

Guide to updating your email address:

Follow these steps to change your email address:

  1. Log in
Start by logging in to your account.
  2. Go to “My Profile”
Click on "My Profile" in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select “Edit email addresses”
Inside the profile, click on "Edit email addresses".
  4. Enter your new email address
Replace the existing email with the new one or add a public email and save the change.
  5. Confirm the change via email
You will receive an email at the new address with a confirmation link.
Click the link to complete the change.

The email will have the subject:

"Confirm change of primary email address", or

"Confirm change of public email address"

Important: The change will only take effect once you have confirmed it via the email.

If you are registrar-managed, please contact your registrar to update your contact information.

The word “registrar” means an approved company that mediates the registration of a .dk domain name for you. The registrar is typically also responsible for hosting your website and email. The registrar may choose to offer “registrar management”, where they handle all the administrative aspects of your .dk domain name directly at Punktum dk on your behalf.

What does it mean to be a registrar managed?

Punktum dk will not designate specific registrars for you as a registrant to choose. However, we can refer to all registrants who have an agreement with Punktum dk and who support registrar management.

Se the registrar list here.

After July 1, 2026, there will be an option in our self-service solution to choose a registrar

  • The information about the registrars will be based on the information that the registrars themselves have provided
  • When you must choose a registrar, the registrar that currently hosts your .dk domain name(s) will be highlighted

When your .dk domain name is transferred to the administration by a registrar, you will be informed of the process in the agreement you have with your chosen registrar. It will still require the registrar to receive active acceptance from you in order for it to be administered by the registrar.

You will still be able to retrieve an authorization code via our self-service portal so that you can transfer your .dk-domain name.

To register a .dk domain name, it will be required that the domain is managed through a registrar as of July 1, 2028.

If you register a new .dk domain name on or after July 1, 2026, it must also be registrar-managed.

If you have not transferred the management of your .dk domain to a registrar by the time we approach July 1, 2028, you will be notified of any potential consequences or requirements.

Today, most registrants receive two separate invoices – one from Punktum dk for the .dk domain name and one from the registrar for services such as web hosting or other related services. For many, receiving two invoices related to the same domain can be confusing.

This is why it makes sense for the registrant to have direct contact with the registrar for all matters related to their .dk domain name.

With the transition to the new model, the registrant will only need to deal with one party going forward – the registrar.

As a registrant, you can always contact Punktum dk if you find yourself in a situation where you are unable to transfer your domain to another registrar.

All registrars are bound by their agreement with Punktum dk to allow such transfers and are obligated to provide you with the necessary authorization code.

If you are dissatisfied with how a registrar has handled your case, you can file a complaint with the Complaints Board for Domain Names
